Hello-I just Googled it. Take a look at this doco from the USDA web site. If I understand it correctly it would be up to a $250,000 fine and 5 years in prison for individuals and up to $500,000 fine and 5 years for any business or organization.

It also sounds like they have very aggressive surveillance and inspection processes in place to enforce the law.

Hardly worth the risk.

Instead of listing all what we CAN'T do, I wish there was a database EU members could sign themselves up on, or that was automatically generated from the data of people who have successfully met the requirements to export eggs and birds, one which would automatically purge their names if/when their permits expire. If such a database was publicly available, I should think that the commerce generated with members would be so great that it would provide strong financial incentive for others in England, for example, to get certified, regulated, or what have you, to sell lots of eggs to us nutcases over here that would trade maybe their second or third born child for just the right combination of difficult to find sorts of eggs.

On another note; Patty your roosters look so good. What do you feed them? Mine were growing really nicely on the starter. At 8 weeks I took them off starter and put them on all purpose crumbles and they didn't seem to be growing as well so now I have them on a mix of all purpose crumbles, game bird and turkey grower, hen scratch, sunflower hearts and flax seed. They are definitely putting the weight on. But I am wondering what everybody else feeds their roos for good condition and weight. Are there formulas out there that really make them healthy, shiny, etc.....

First...I was joking about bringing in "eating eggs". I'm sure customs isn't that stupid!!

Secondly, bird flu is NOT transferred through eggs. It's important that we as poultry folks know how diseases are transferred and spread and not give inaccurate information. The best (worst) way to spread poultry disease is to go to someone elses place that has chickens, walk around and then come back to your own place. Or...buy some chickens and put them with your chickens without quarantining them.

I don't know about bird flu but I do know that avian encephalitis is spread through eggs. And I thought I was safe hatching all my chickens
