The PDF states that the ban is for poultry and poultry products. I didn't read the entire thing so I am not sure which diseases they believe are transferred through the hatching eggs.

I think everyone knows you were kidding....some of us here (like me) are just information addicts

Actually, they aren't totally 100% sure how bird flu is transferred and it is not something to joke about. The virus could be found on the shell of the egg depending if an infected bird laid it or if it was handled by a person that was handling infected birds.

It's not encephalitis that is spread through the egg. It is encephalomyelitis that is transferred from hen to egg. Just ask anyone that's bought chicks from McMurray Hatchery from February - March 2008.

Because this is off topic, rather than post again, I am editing this post to add...
Encephalitis is generally spread by mosquitoes. Encephalomyelitis is the egg to hen borne illness. It causes death in young chicks, generally ages 2-4 weeks old. Unless you're a vet, self diagnosis is not a good idea. Many different viruses can cause the same symptoms and in order to determine any nervous system disorders, birds need to be examined. Even then, sometimes the only way to determine the problem is by the damage left behind in the brain, not by actually finding the active virus cuprit itself.

Yes, understood. I think he's got it. We pretty much beat him over the head with the information.

I had a chick that hatched with a swollen head and other problems. When I reasearched it avian encephalitis came up, swelling of the brain, etc. I will see if I can find it later if I have time but it is a virus that is passed from hen to egg. Maybe the encephalitis was a symptom of the virus I looked up but whatever it was could be transmitted from an infected hen to the hatching egg. Not that any of this matters, but my point was that just buying eggs could be a risk

OH MY GOSH, Now I know what you're talking about! Those are so positively adorable....I'm so scatter brained, I had a hard time figuring out who was who, and I know most of the names now, Henry, and I finally got down to the babies, and that someone else was hatching em, and all that!! I read the whole thread, silly me, thats why I was confused! I should have just gone and looked at YOUR babies like you said!! Congratulations!!

That is a lovely basket of eggs!
The speckled on reminds me of what inspired me to get a Delaware. Someone had Delaware/Marans cross that lays a lime green egg with brown spots....I gotta try it!!
Your eggs are beautiful!

Hi,the speckled egg is from a Cuckoo Marans. Most of my hens are molting at this time. I have some pullets that will be starting soon. Its the best part of my day when I go collecting eggs.
