KLF73 I am not an expert but i do have Cuckoo Marans and yes i believe you have your groups correct. The males are more gray to black where your females are darker or more black. They are cute little fuzz butts. You have smoe sweet chicks there good luck with them

Does anyone know where I can get some good quality Black Copper Marans chicks or eggs? I would rather not wait all year or longer for them, as I know the really good lines do!

Drom, bayhorsebonne told me that our birds are from F1 cross from Wade Gene and Ron Presley lines. I had one pullet that laid dark, and two that laid a lot lighter. She told me to hold onto the lighter layers and see what happens to the egg color, it could darken up. One quit laying, but the other one is getting slowly and steadily darker, more or less lik Oblio's eggs. Started out a bit darker, but darkened up like his were. I am going to try to hatch a few of the lighter eggs to see if those pullets lay dark or light like their mom. Time will tell.

Hi, So, I actually did not mean, when I said "closely related lines", that Wade Jeane and RP lines are close, I meant that our birds are from the same lines and same breeding. Just wanted to make that clarification cause I don't think that was so clear in my sentence.

Anyways, so the hens that laid our eggs are F1? Or are our birds are F1? I actually never did ask her. I would be curious to know, if our birds are F2 then which line were the F1s bred back to? Usually, I think they breed back to the father when starting to line breed. At least that is what I am reading. She has that big Wade Jeane Roo so I wonder if she bred F1 daughters back to him?
I should have asked her all these things. But I was so excited when I was picking up my chicks and her birds were so big and beautiful, I was just blanking out.

I think there will be lots of people in the early spring who will have BC eggs from birds that are from breeders who have long waiting lists now. So, maybe the thing to do is spend a little time researching, reading, looking at pictures of eggs/birds and figure out which breeder line you want BCs from. Then maybe approach someone who has birds from that line and is selling eggs. Then you won't have to wait for a year. Just be careful to work with someone who everyone knows and who is ethical, etc... Don't buy eggs from someone you know nothing about.

Hi guys!

Just got back from a trip to the hills, we were at a Meet and Greet and making Deep Fried Turkey for 20+ people. I see everyone has been busy here today!!!

There are sure some awesome Chick Pics being posted!!!

KLF73 - I love trying to color sex Cuckoo Marans chicks - I figure we have a 50/50 chance of being right!! But really, you have a good example in the pics of lighter/males, darker/females.....I think you're right! Nice pics too!

I agree with Tina,KLF73. Looks as though you have them grouped correctly. One of the chicks in the male group may tyrn out to be female. You could check it's legs. The female chicks are more likeyly to have dark coloring down their legs.
