Drom, all my 6 Wheatens hatched within a week or so late this summer. They were all yellow among the black and white BC chicks. I've never had any other variations before or since and probably hatched 200 or so BCs this year. They all looked alike.
At the time they hatched, I was rotating my 3 BC roos weekly among my 7 hens. The Wheaten eggs were all very similar, and I believe they came from the same hen. My ?? theory ?? is that one particular hen when paired with one particular roo produced the Wheatens.
They disappeared just as mysteriously as they appeared and I haven't hatched one since. I hope to work with those I have and see where the line leads.
