He is still such a big baby! I took all the chicks out of the brooder the last couple of days and put them outside for about an hour. He just wanted to stay snuggled up to us. He is soooooo calm compared to any other chick I have had yet. I hope he stays that way.

Does their leg size indicate male? I've never thought to look at legs. In my first batch, Jesse had copper coloring, on his head, from day one that got increasingly more so and I thought I had just the one roo and 9 girls. But one day, months later, James suddenly started turning copper and I realized I had 2 roos and 8 girls.
I'd love to know how to tell early one which is which. In some breeds I can tell the minute they hatch but I haven't learned what to look for in the Marans yet other than copper colored head.
