How long should you wait? Pull up a chair and let me tell you a little story about Zig Zag... She hatched from the original batch of CBM eggs I bought from bayhorsebonne. Well, right before she started laying, they all got a bout with fowl pox. She had the roughest time, lost condition, her comb went purple and laid over, the whole bit. When she started laying, her eggs were LIGHT, like you are saying, RIR light, if not lighter! I showed one of her eggs to Donna (breeder) and she said not to worry, that it was VERY abnormal for her to lay light like that, and that it would darken up. She even said "Next year she could lay a whole different color egg after she cycles down once" and I though that was a crock, but I kept her a few more months. Her eggs never got darker than this. These are her actual eggs from her first fall laying:

Well, fast forward a few months. I got so sick of looking at those weak eggs I gave her to a friend, along with a roo. He kept her for several months and told me she was not laying, to come get her back. I went and picked her up, and son of a GUN! Two days later, she lays a gorgeous dark brown egg, (and stepped on it and broke it because I was so excited I scared her.

) and two weeks later she started in a-laying and all her eggs have been dark. You can't tell them from Tipsy's eggs on a good day. One of the two eggs on the far left is hers... so... the answer, how long do you wait? I still don't know, but if they are from dark laying lines, I would at least wait a year. Hope this helps.

gamebirdsonly Good luck with your eggs

Nija I agree with the mass sell your eggs at what you are comforable with don't worry about the other sellers out there. They are from your flock and your work has been put in on them. And if ya have any eggs avaiable in April let me know.

My babies from her seem to be getting bigger everyday. One that looks to be a pullet is SO big looks like she's gonna be a giant. My other pullet should be laying anyday and it's like xmas day every morning waiting to see your presents. I'll be sure to post a pic when it happens.

Chef

mannnnn... I am on pins and needles for the seven pullets I hatched last fall to start laying... some of their combs are cherry red and they are checking out the nest box and hanging out in it... sooner or later I am going to be CHOKING on (hopefully) DARK, GORGEOUS, CBM eggs!!! I picture myself covered in a pile of them with only my head and arms sticking out... Well... okay, but theoretically on a good day I could get eight or ten... IF they all lay dark, and regularly, and nothing gets any of them, and the creek don't rise.

chef, how old is your CBM pullet?

She is going on 5 months. Mine is also checking out the nest box. She'll get in there and move the shavings around and looks at everything. Should be real soon. That sure would be nice to get that many dark eggs a day. Hopefully you do!

Chef

Oh, if it was still a baby I would have give you one. I have a single CBM chick about eight weeks old, looks to be a pullet. That's okay, I will grow her out with a blue marans chick her same age and just introduce her when it is time.
