Im not a Marans specialist by any means, but I've sure used my incubator with alot of Marans, Marans only, and Marans mixed with others (right now)
I am going to say a couple of things that I've learned and I hope others share so you can get a feel for the middle ground.
Humidity will depend on your area, I am in Northern California, but 70% would be too high, chicks, especially my marans, needed only about a 55% at hatch, when I was using 65% here, they were hatching with terrible non-yolk absorbtion issues, and what I will call mushy belly (not the disease though)...they were drowning in shell on several occasions. I have succussfully used a lower humidity for them, but you do have to raise it to the 55% (In my area) the last 3 days.....the membrane was really gooey. I have a hovabator Genesis 1588 and remove the plug for circulation.
Oh - I hope you are on day 21 not 12?
And it sounds to me like you are dead on with your hatch! I think Marans are difficult to hatch, but they arent impossible, you've done great! If you leave them alone too long though, they probably wont make it, in my opinion. If they die, open them up and see why? You'll learn from it. See if they tried to pip but were too big, or the membrane was too dry (I could be waaaay off and you need MORE water?)...Tonight though, I would see if they are peeping and getting weaker - do a test opening/break on an egg...no blood...open it a teeny bit more....membrane dry and like tissue paper...that chick needs help...you moisten it some, and start to peel it back...and there is a great thread here on helping chicks out. I think its worth a try helping them out. Others feel let the weak die. Pooh. I bet no one could tell which ones I helped out in my yard! Good luck, and many Marans!!
