Thanks, these are from yesterday. Although they are slightly lighter than earlier in the cycle, they stay pretty constant. I've got the overall "type" of my birds where I want them, I just have to improve some on overal coloring of the roos, and try to get a little better egg color.

I don't have a pic at the moment but am wondering about the color
of one of my Marans pullets.
She is brown with copper hackles. Is this a color variation or just a strange color?

It is not a correct colour.
I wonder whether she's like one of mine, who can only be described as rich dark brown with copper hackles. I have E (extended black) ER (birchen) & eWh (wheaten) in my flock. It could be that she's het for wheaten. I wing band & log both parents of every marans I hatch. I know her mother doesn't carry wheaten.​

Yes, that is exactly what she looks like. A nice rich brown. Thanks I just couldn't get my brain around how to describe her!

My best pair. I should have taken their pics when they were free-ranging, can't see alot of detail behind the wire.

They are just over 6 months old. She is cranking our some pretty eggs, she "speckles" them...

I will get some better pics of my babies, and put them on the thread where everyone can see the faults, maybe there are some that I haven't thought of?

Rustyswoman... Is that a Silver Marans' hackles I'm looking at? I'd sure love to get some of that variety sometime. They're on my wish list. If it is a Silver Marans, do you have more pics of them to show off, and how is your egg color?

I like the Silvers too. I have two pullets, cockerel and a Roo. 2 separate lines. I hope to build my flock. Great birds.
