I absolutely adore my cuckoos! They are my best behaved birds and not nearly as "common" as my RIRs and BRs and BOs. So you do what you want but please try to not insult those of us that have them and love them! OK backing away now... It's OK girls don't listen to them, Mommy loves you!
I love my cuckoos, too, and have worked very hard to improve the egg color, but I understand what SunnyDawn is saying. The market was flooded with cuckoos(and not always the best quality) at one time, much like the BCM are being done today. See, personally, I don't like the look of the BCM because to me, they look like a black sex-link, but I know lots of people love them. Now I'd really love to get some blues! Those are on my wish list!
I'm going to join the March Hatch Madneess some time this month. If anyone would like or need some cuckoo marans eggs, Pm me and I will make you a good deal. I am not opposed to a swap.

I'm with you! I have a little of everything, and my favorites are definitely the blues and splash. I really do not care for the copper ones, as far as looks. I also like the Wheatons.

Me too! I'm not in love with Black Copper Marans......I am in love with the Splash and Blue Copper and Blues more than anything. Just have to have some of the Black Coppers around for the breeding program, ya know what I'm sayin'?
Heck...... I don't even own a Black Copper Rooster.....may keep one or two out of these up coming hatches and see how they grow out, but I will only keep them on for breeding purposes down the road if something where to happen to the adult Blue Coppers and Splash boys that I have now along with their Bl-CPR and Splash sons that I am growing out.
I also fancy the Wheaties but do not have any of them. They are beautiful birds.

I know everybody has them, but I still like the look of the Black Coppers. They're sleek and black and they have style
Howdy fellow Marans chicken lovers... I have something I want to get out there and althougth this thread is 500 pages long and I know it will be on the back pages soon enough but I am not sure where else to put it... I have a flock of BCMs... recently I have hatched a chick with fused (webbed) outter toes on one foot... I also have heard back from someone who purchased eggs from me that they got the same issue. I have read pages on toes issues and have gotten conflicting information that it may be recessive but the most reliable information seems to be that it is dominant. So I have checked my flock and I have a hen that I think has a very mild webbing on one foot almost completely covered by her feathers. I have taken her out of my flock.
I have to be honest to say that I have seen breeders and egg sellers raked over the coals here when an unexpected color chick hatched or every egg failed to hatch or whatever... so I am a little leary to post this... but I don't want anyone to feel like I was ever less than honest. I am giving consideration as to whether I will continue to offer Black Copper Marans eggs on BYC... I lean toward yes as I have not found a perfect flock yet and I have many issues worked out... great egg color, etc. but would love to hear from others buying and selling eggs.
