dread pirate Roberts... the light egg and less laying in the Penedesenca.... Stressor.... search for a stressor....something is upsetting them either internally or externally. They are ver sensitive (flighty) birds so they sucumb to stressors first. Good luck!!

yeah, they've been freaking out and quit laying since a big storm cruised through a few weeks back.

they're local and well taken care of, just totally nuts.

I just switched those last three eggs with BCM #22-24, so I'll be able to see whether it's crazy eggs or a crazy incubator causing the dramatic weight loss.

I took the last divider out of my incubator and and added the dark egg. This morning when I looked at it again, next to the others in the incubator, I wasn't as impressed with the egg as I was yesterday.

I guess it's not actually that much darker. But the stippling is really cool. I think that is what got me so excited yesterday.

I did however take a second look at all the eggs I put in there and there is one there I am not totally pleased with. It's a matte finish, but not all that dark. I should have chose a different one instead.

Whatever. It's not like this will be my only time using the incubator, but I am going to have to place the roosters and that's not easy, so I won't probably be hatching many more this season.

The good news is, I closed the lid and the temp and humidity were back up to their settings in about 2 minutes. I think I really love this incubator.

I need to get an egg scale like yours. I want to see what this incubator will do on the standard settings in this first hatch. But on the next one I am going to measure the weight loss like you do.

I hear that breed is just completely bonkers.

They do have very pretty eggs though

C1 and C2 doesn't really mean anything as far as I know. I believe, as Pasofino mentioned, they are just designations given to a couple different pens of birds in a specific Black Copper breeding program.

F1 means something. That term is used quite frequently and probably too loosely. With Bengal cats for instance, F1, F2 and F3 were very important specific references to first, second and third generation hybrids from leopard cat and domestic crosses. The term is also used with plants as well.

Here is the Wikipedia definition of F1: F1 stands for Filial 1, the first filial generation seeds/plants or animal offspring resulting from a cross mating of distinctly different parental types.

I wouldn't expect that to be an issue in a forced-air 'bator. And I've never noticed this with prior clutches. This is the 5th for me and this 'bator.

I was just talking with someone telling them that my girls still havent layed yet and poof! Wouldnt you know they go and lay today, well three of them did anyways. The two bigger eggs are from my BA and a sex-link. Thinkfully I know which girl layed the nice dark egg! After I found the first two I sat out there until someone else laid! These were taking outside in natural light.

None of my bcm babies from pasofino have webbed toes. They are all cutie pies. I have one that I am thinking might turn out to be an especially nice looking roo and he is so full of himself! He tries to challenge the roos that are twice his size and way older LOL!

I also like the blue marans. My blue marans roos are just getting to the age they wanna crow. They sound like someone is strangling a bunch of cats. I like the looks of the wheatens and golden cuckoos too. I have one really light golden cuckoo that it getting feathered out now and he is gonna be super light. He is really cute.
