Most of my Marans roos are fine....but I've got a coupla evil ones, too. Like anything else, it's an individual thing!

My RIRs were a batch of straight-run chicks that I bought in February to get things started for my new coop. I really have no regrets about only having two left of the original five, because my learning curve has been steep, and there has been a lot to learn. (To clarify, we lost one runt RIR chick of our original five that probably should have been culled before hatching, and two others are roos). Our goal was to have five RIR hens, but now we have three types of hens and by summer will have plenty of good will and hen fruit to spread around...

I have done some research and Yep... Martha on her site says she got them from MrMurray hatchery... You are right Illia.... I had read somewhere else that she imported them... IDK... Maybe she has imported some birds and the Cuckoos she got in 2007 were from Murray....

I thought so as well geebs. I did a little back searching and found the above quote. Resolution does not actually say that they imported birds, though, sounds more like a research mission. A little further down however it does speak of Martha's friend as having "heirloom linage of this breed". Perhaps Resolution will see this and clarify.

I don't have a red light- that's what color they are.(reveal 100w) The heads are reddish with spots around the face, bottoms are blueish. And I actually have 3- one must have been blending in with the dark brahmas

Well... if I did the math right and I make it to 75 yrs old, I have 74 chicken generations left. Woot! That's alot of chickies!

Can some look at my little humanized girl (we don't think she knows shes a chicken) She was the only chick that hatched out of 18 eggs I got at the Marans table at Ohio Poultry Nationals in November. She is extremely sweet and when you call her she runs up to you and wants you to pet her under her beak. I'm trying to see what others think about her she's about 16 wks old.
