Otherwise a Sussex may work best.
 
wanna see pix of the eggies they lay... I had them take a pic for me... (it will take a min to upload).... I had a cree hen die...(eggbound) and so I had to replace her... They really lay as dark as the pics

My own Crees are doing wonders. . . The cockerel with the weird eye problem just may after all be kept for a breeding rooster. I have a theory that he's the one that hatched from my REALLY glossy egg, and with all the troubles that chick had. . . Is why he's got a weird eye thing going on. The main thing that has him winning me over is he's the only really sweet, laidback, and friendly Marans cockerel I've had, his comb is the only one that is coming in at just the shape I want, and he's already getting copper hackles coming in now. . .

The hens are a year old and a two year old.... and these are the eggs they laid this week... WOWZA... I am so eggscited...Happy birthday to me!!!
