They are about 13 weeks old, still have a lot of growing to do yet.

Curious what everyone thinks about this guy, its a Maran just not sure what color s/he will be! lol
It's difficult to tell in the picture (s/he is the one in the front) he is the lightest grey color I have EVER seen, so pale of a gray almost to be white.....
Just curious what everyone might think.

hi,

I have a pair of Cuckoo Maran Hen that turned 6 months yesterday. So far I have no eggs.... Are they usually late bloomers? Or should I expect them any day now?

depends on your location and time of yearand diet can play a part .for instance , my bev davis wheaten marans took for ever borne in march23 got my first egg x-mass eve
so sometimes it takes a wile ,personaly i dont beleave any one breeder birds are fast or slow i think its all very random

I suppose if you hatch enough of everyones line you get a pattern... some line mature faster than others... With a few exceptions. I don't cross my lines and I order consistently from the same breeders and use them in closed flocks to preserve integrity of egg color... so yes you can see a pattern develop. 7 months for a general "rule".... give or take 5 months either directions ...

I would think she should be laying any day... Watch for her to go to the egg box. Make sure you have enough good bedding to encourage a lay and a few golf balls don't hurt either.

Question, I got some Black Copper marans from a friend of mine. These are mostly from the Jean lines and seem to be really nice birds. But one of them, a roo, is starting to color up with a lot of brown. He almost looks like a Brown leghorn in color. He is from the same batch of eggs as the others but instead of getting blacker he is getting browner. And he is feather legged and everything. Any ideas as to what happened or what he will be when he gets older. Here are a couple of pics of my little roo and a couple of one of my prize pullets.

Probably a Splash by the color you are describing....did you purchase these as chicks or hatch them from eggs you purchased?

Do you by chance have another photo of this chick that will show the color better? I think that the brooder light is making it appear yellow but I can see that it is not.

I am sorry but I don't have a better pic right now, I will try to get one tomorrow. He is not yellow at all....simply a VERY pale grey, not the darker grey of my blues.
