I would love to see everyone's Golden Cuckoos. I have 3 males and 2 females. Mine are babies except one male roo (Cuckoo Baby) who is a light colored GC and close to 6 mos old now, I think.

geebs: I have heard that mineral or vegetable oil rubbed around and a little ways into the vent helps it pass. I have also heard some people will feed them some bread soaked in vegetable oil. I haven't encountered that yet. The worst I've had in that dept. was a shelled egg that was inside of a shell-less egg if that makes any sense lol but that's the best way that I can describe it. Here's a picture of it. I posted about it and they wanted me to egg topsy it lol. It was a marans egg here is what it looked like and you don't wanna know the rest of the story LOL.

I think she will be okay... She stopped contracting and is acting like a chicken again... No passed egg but I think the worst part is over for the moment... She had fallen in her water bucket and was trying to lay an egg in there while under water.. I think if she just relaxes the eggie will come out... The bath helped aLOT.... Thanks everyone... I will let you know tomarrow how she did through the night...I gotta go.. I have a work party scheduled for a friend with cancer.. I gotta drive my "crew" over..

I'm pretty excited to see what happens in the spring and get started on my own strain. I'll have a bunch to sell this fall because I'm only keeping the best to breed with and then make up my egg selling pen I'm hoping to get down to 35-45 total chickens sadly when the ones I hatched from good eggs start laying the hatchery girls will have to go....unless the demand for eggs goes up I haven't sold eggs in ages so we'll see if people will pay for them. I just can't wait to hatch from my own stock shipping eggs was terrible this year for many people I was one of them some hatches were great and others were not worth my time.

You can call the Chicken Doctor(no joke) Peter Brown at First State Vet Supply , he will answer any and all question about your chickens (no charge) . Great guy that helped a lot of people and their animals/poultry . Don't be afraid to call if you really need help .

Well the hen seems to be fine and resting... She never did pass an egg....I don't know if she just got water up inside her from falling in the bucket or ???? But she stopped contracting and some water.... not egg... drained from her.. I have put her on antibiotics just to be sure... She looks normal tonight... I think by morning she will be back on top of her game... Thanks for all the support from you guys....It means alot... She look like the one that was posted that lay the dark egg.... She is my favorite for conformation as well as a super oober darkie layer..

I guess she isn't a cucko after all? When she was given to me the man said she was a Cucku Maran but now going through the threads I look and none look like her in color at least.....i know the pictures aren't the best I can get more tomorrow ....what do you guys think? She is a yr old .

Hens are darker than the roos and you can't compare Goldens with the regular Cuckoos my pictures were of a Silver roo he would be way lighter than your girl. Try and get some more pictures too bad you can't be there when she lays an egg to see what hers look like..
