My two Maran girls are still young, but are they the type to go broody? Like super broody? It would be nice if their giant fluffy butts could hatch some duck eggs for me. Nothing else I have is a setter, some what hoping they will be.

If it makes a difference, one is smoky black (or dark, dark blue?) and the other is a splash. Some wheaten are in the incubator so I can swap out the older 2 in the flock for them in the future.

According to Henderson's they are great brooders, or annoyingly frequent brooders. I have no experience with them.

HI. Had 2 of my 4 cuckoo's go broody last year......
Have a splash sitting now.
Mine have been great mothers........

Oh good! I can do without the eggs if they're raising ducks for me. I have more coming in the incubator too and wanted to keep a couple of girls. Spring next year should be a fun time here!

I have 4 FBCM hens. 1 and 2 years old now. They have been annoyingly broody. 1 started trying to go broody about a month after she started laying eggs. broke her 4 times through the spring and summer. Others laid longer and then went broody several times. I really didn't know that were this dang broody. So don't really get that many eggs from them. in 2019 I decided to breed my FBCM Roo with my white leghorns which never go broody. I get lite tan/cream eggs out of the 5 pullets I hatched, and all 5 have been broody several times their first year. I was a bit shocked that all 5 would be broody since their dams are white leghorns.

Old thread, like new.
I have a black copper...she's obnoxiously broody!
Everywhere on Google it says they rarely go broody. She goes in a next box with an egg in it and you don't catch her within 15 mins and she's broody within a couple days. Talking her out of it, while she runs over puffed up and clucking non stop, takes at least a week. She's 3 and she's tried over 10x and been hard core broody 2x...and that's with me constantly on her to try and keep her not broody.
