Ok, I just finished my 2nd hatch and I have 3 birchen marans and 3 black copper marans.... and a ton of lookalikes. I have a lady who wants JUST the marans.... how in the world do I figure out which they are?

Those have yellow legs. Marans have pink. I don‘t see any Marans.
I also think I see too much leg fluff and maybe some beards?

I have hatched both types as well at the same time. The black copper Marans are more yellow and black and have more feathering on their legs. The Birchen Marans down color is a paler yellow and more black and have less feathering on the legs. Hope this helps!😊

I should also note that the other posters are correct, ideally Marans should have pink feet and shanks. It is not SOP for them to have yellow feet. Are these your own eggs that you hatched? Or did you get them from a breeder? They can have the darker feet with pink toes as I see some of yours have. Here’s a photo I found from chicks I hatched last year demonstrating the black copper Marans versus the birchen Marans chicks.

Note that the Birchen chick has much less feathering on the legs and less yellow down as well.😊

Looking closely at your photos it looks like the chicks have pink feet! Could just be the lighting that’s making them look yellow. The chick in the very first photo is definitely BCM, it has the yellow down around the eyes. They do have fairly significant feathered legs as chicks, this is normal.😊
