Any one who's got them .. (Especially in North Carolina) . How do your birds behave and how do they handle the heat?, Laying?, Friendliness to People .. Friendliness to Other chickens ?, Egg Color? .. anything really.

Humor me ... im still building my coop .. no birds yet

but getting real Maran eggs i think

I have only one hen and two roos from ray valentine.

the roos are real cowards and have never had one come anywhere near me. the hen is extremely friendly and went broody this summer (about 1.5 years old). didn't lay until 7 months old, though, and only lays at best 3 eggs a week. didn't lay at all last winter. went broody this year in july and hasn't laid an egg since raising that chick.

but I plan on getting some more hens to hatch my own eggs. plan on eating the roos. they were as big as they are now at 15 weeks old. I'm guessing they are around 7 pounds.

get along with other chickens. sort of in the middle of the pecking order. gets both very hot and cold here in indiana (95 to -20) and have had no problems with them. all my chickens are kept in very short coops (basically big dog houses) so never really have had trouble with cold. color of mine is a 4 or maybe a 5 on a good day.
