Both of my white leghorns have been laying good sized eggs for the past several months. However, once last week and again today I went to the nest box and found an egg the size of a marble. The one that was lain last week did not have a yolk inside it so I assume that the one I got today won't either. Does anyone know what is happening?

It is called a fart egg. Those happn from time to time. It is nothing to worry about.

yep deffo sounds like a fart egg! I had one of my girls lay one of these and she is now laying "normal" sized eggs, the little one she laid was like an over grown jelly bean and yes amazingly it did have a white and yolk albeit tiny!! i decided against having it for my brekkie!

LOL!!!! I can't wait to tell my eleven year-old son what it's called! Thanks for getting back with me. I was worried that something had "stopped" her up.

Thanks for that as I had a tiny marble egg today thought somebody was playing a joke on us - sure enough it was so tiny - somepbdy said it was called a fairy or witch egg - nevertheless glad to hear it has happened to somebody else's chicks

loving this egg collecting
