March 2023 hatch-a-long

The 2 crouching are blue/gray, 2 black, one in the corner is a dark brown, and the yellow will be splash.

I’ve almost joined this thread 3 times and stopped because I’m just nervous for our first incubation! We set 14 to be due today on my birthday. 🥰

3 were not fertile (is that normal from shipped hatchery eggs?) - 1 quitter - 10 went to lockdown. Our darker eggs were questionable so we left them in.

We have 7 pipped and one went from pip to hatched out in 30 minutes! It’s flopping all over and not standing up yet. Hopefully it’s ok. Anywho, thanks everyone for all your sharing and tips, it’s so helpful for us newbies!

Anything 50% and higher is great for shipped eggs. With any eggs having some not fertile is normal.

Sounds like you are having a great hatch so far. Yes they will flop all over, fall asleep standing up, knock the other eggs all over etc. All normal.

Awesome thank you!

And thank you @Canadian Wind!

Funny thing to report, we have one that was stamped as a barred rock and I’m preeeetty sure this golden sweetie is not one 😂 Maybe White Plymouth? Who knows, let the guessing games begin. Five have hatched out though!

I finally got three “pure” Wyandottes! They’re SLW/GLW, so not exactly ideal genetics, but if they’re pullets I can still sell them for a premium 👍 5 of these eggs were from my GLW collected over the course of a week - you can see that she was busy with BOTH of my cockerels 😂 two yellow babies will be half Bresse. I’m curious to see what the little yellow/gold headed baby will look like - maybe white/half-laced ?

I’m packing up my incubators tonight 🫣 they’ve been running nonstop since January.
