March 2023 hatch-a-long

Pics
I WISH I could set that many at one time. My incubator technically only holds 22 but I have been known to "stack" some to hopefully end up with 22 after weeding out any that don't develop. Sure my husband is happy that it doesn't hold more! LOL
Wait... I can STACK them?!?!?! I'm starting my first ever hatch tomorrow in a NR360. I expect that some of my eggs are not fertile, so I can stack a few more? That's amazing, so now I have to ask a bunch of questions- How many extra do you stack and on what day do you toss the undeveloping eggs? My original plan was the candle on day 3, but still keep any undeveloping eggs just in case until my second candling on day 14.

I have 31 in the NR360 right now. If you want extras, I would stick with 28 (my original stack plan). In the middle of the two turner rings, there are 6 triangle shapes. I put my 6 smallest eggs in those spaces. They won’t turn correctly (and some underneath them may get stuck too, so I set all eggs to one marked side 3 xs a day, rotating to the other marked side each time. If some eggs get extra turns, great! But this way I know at minimum they are all getting turned 3 times.

And with 31 I will probably toss any I don’t see development in on day 10. Once you are down to 22, feel free to leave them until lockdown unless they are obviously not developed.

I'd recommend that you hold off candling the first time until they are on Day 4 or 5. They are very fragile during the first few days, and it's hard to see much that's *definite* so early anyway. By Day 5, you should easily be able to see the "clears" and take them out. Anything else in question I'd leave in there until Day 10 or 14.

Basically what @Iluveggers said. Try to stick with 28.... I take out any I am 100% sure are clears around day 5. If I have any question at all I wait will day 10-14. At least till I have 22. After that I may wait later until I know for sure they aren't developing.

Tomorrow I have to leave around 11am and not home till probably midnight. Ugh. I will be waking up on the early side and will turn them, then right before I leave but then they will go around 13+ hrs maybe till I can turn them again. I hope this doesn't harm them....

I could be wrong, but as I understand it, the turning is to prevent them from cutting off blood flow and to prevent getting stuck in one position. Right? or is this wrong?
If I'm right, then you shouldn't worry. At this point, they're still just a blastodisc and there's nothing to get stuck anywhere, yet. :)

yes I think to keep them from getting stuck to the shell...... so hopefully will be fine since they will be like 20-30 hrs or so....
