Could you set up the egg cartonholders upright in your incubator tonight, and put the eggs in upright after work for a day or so? Then start the turner once they’ve been vertical for 24 hours?

I could probably do that. I have maybe 15-20 min after work till I have to leave again.

praying they come in tomorrow so I can grab them in the morning. Then I need to make a decision........ I have read lots that quite a few don't really let them rest before starting them, others do etc. I won't be home basically the whole day if I set them on Sat (so not around on day 21)....... so I would REALLY like to set them tomorrow....... now to decide if I set them right away in egg cartons so they are in the incubator to rest pointy side down and don't turn the first 24 hrs so they basically "rest" in the incubator........ Or let them rest on the counter from (hopefully) around 8:30-2:30 but then I would have to lay them in the incubator since I don't have much time home then to put them in the egg cartons......... Or wait and let them rest till around 10pm then I can either do egg cartons or lay them down........ BUT if I wait till 10pm there is a chance I will miss a lot hatching overnight........

I only rested mine 10 hours. 9/14 hatched one didn’t make it. I would assess how they feel temperature wise though when you get them.

Had 3 Call duck eggs not make it. It’s day 6 for them and they had blood rings. There is a few others that I am watching. I think I see veins but it is so faint. Especially compared to the others. I don’t know that they will make it.

Wasn't going to hatch any eggs till spring but after seeing many posts and pics on Facebook with baby chicks. I just got some eggs three days ago see if I can hatch any.
It's very hard to find hatching eggs here where I'm. The guy sold me the eggs is not sure how fertilized those eggs are so we shall see
Nothing fancy. Barnyard mix type mainly barred rock or barred rock mix
So hopefully I will be able to tell the sex at hatching

My last hatch I got 6 Roo's out of 11 I have left. Hatched out 14 but 3 were taken by predators when free ranging in the summer

Candled the eggs tonight. Of the 7 I started with, 3 remain! They look pretty strong despite the funky air cells, so fingers crossed. Lockdown is Tuesday so still a ways to go.

Random question (sorry if this is not the right place for it) - my el cheapo incubator has a smooth plastic bottom and I read in another post somewhere else about chickens getting spladdle leg while in the incubator. Should I try and put something down a bit more grippy for when they (hopefully) hatch?

For the hatch-a-long - candling tomorrow for 14 days (well, 14 days for the chicks, 17 for the guineas) so hopefully all is going smoothly! There were a couple I wasn't sure about at 7 days so I'm expecting some will have to come out.

I got cupboard liner that has grip and cut it to fit my incubator. It worked well for me.

I use the bumpy shelf liner you can find at any dollar store or Walmart. Works great. Kinda sticky so no slipping.

yes what others say. the cheapo rubber shelf liner from walmart cut to size works GREAT!!!!!!!!!
