March 2023 hatch-a-long

Pics
Did another quick candling with my daughters again tonight. Saw very good movement out of all 11 eggs, even an egg that the other day we weren't so sure on, so now the kids made me mark it with a "Z" and if that egg hatches the chicks name has already been chosen as "Zombie"
Awesome! I love fun chicken names. We have an aseel we named Raptor because we figured it could be aggressive. So far so good!

I have had the eggs in for 25 hours and did not candle once! I probably will tomorrow just to see that there are no cracks etc.
I’m glad to see I can show restraint. Last hatch I had NO restraint and candled daily (sometimes twice a day) until lock down .

I also had the whole family in a panic when they started hatching. One hatched and I forgot to shut the bedroom door and the cat was at the incubator! The wifi camera was on and both my husband and daughter were texting me but I was in a meeting. I rushed home from work yelling at the cat through the camera the whole drive hahah. Pretty sure all of my daughters school heard me screeching at the cat through that camera :lau

All was good but I WONT be leaving the door open close to hatch day again!

I have a very little black chick hatched that is part Spitzenhauben, I am going to name her "Nub".

I have been letting my eggs warm to room temp for 6 hrs. I am going to put in a heated up incubator. I am treating them like shipped eggs, the green eggs from the store, were handled roughly in front of my face by the cashier. They said "Oh Isabella's eggs are great." I said "yeah, I hatch them that is why I didn't want them klunked about!" (they were from the store, but all local.) I will set them but let them sit in incubator 72 hrs before turning. I am still air incubating but no turner, so I will turn 3 times, a day on day 3.

you sound like me! I am on day 3. I peeked at a couple last night and candled them all today. I will check again tomorrow too. then do my best to wait a day or two so I can then remove ones I am 100% sure have nothing so I can TRY to get them not stacked so I can stop turning them by hand. LOL

Day 3 and candled all my eggs. I have 10/18 for sure developing from the shipped eggs, 3 that I couldn't tell, and 4 I saw nothing..... one I had nothing written down for so not sure about that one or how I missed it...

My eggs are sooooooo hard to see in. I THINK I saw something in 6 or 7 out of the 12 but some I just couldn't really see in. Hoping in the next day or two I will be able to see more.
