March 2023 hatch-a-long

That’s definitely a concern I have with them. Especially with my area being predator heavy. I’m only letting free range if myself or dog present (in fenced area) in terms of planning but trying out different breeds to see what is going to work for us.
Is the chick in your avatar one of your own?

Here we go again! My 7 little EE peepers from February are doing great. This time I have Whiting True Blues and Black Copper Marans!

Incubator humidity question for lockdown

I have an old hova Bator that I have no idea of the model or year.
I was going to do dry hatch this time but my house is dry during winter months and humidity keeps going down to 10%... So I have been adding wet paper towels twice a day right now to keep the humidity in 20-40% range. But I don't always get time to keep up with it

So for lockdown. How can I keep the humidity stable
Do I add water into both slots ? Shall I add some paper towel in the slots or just water in the slot or add sponge in the slots with water. Trying to think about something to keep it stable for 3 4 days so I don't have to open the lid

Thanks
Will a shot glass fit in it?

Ahhhh! I think an Isabella Leghorn just hatched!!! I’ll get more pics once it dries off. This was on my chicken wishlist lol I’m really enjoying this mystery/surprise hatch!

Also… yesterday’s baby probably isn’t a white leghorn after all, but still not sure what it could be. It’s yellow/gold with darker wing feathers coming in 🤔 only time will tell.

that chicks is adorable!!!!!!!! The other one is too no matter what it may be. LOL

I just candled mine. For the first time in my hatching history shipped eggs are doing better then my own. Although some of mine were older. The oldest one that is developing was 14 days old when I set it. 8/9 shipped eggs are developing. 4/10 (with a couple that I'm gonna give a few more days and check again) of my own chicken eggs are developing so far.

I really want some blue eggs 😬 I wasn't planning on adding to the main flock this year after the great hatching of 2022 but... anyway that's for another hatchalong.

Don't think I've lost any more eggs yet, although I have been actually taking the old eggs that I was 95% sure werent developing out. Found a poultry supply shop yestersday so bought my chick starter. Over half way now!
