March 2023 hatch-a-long

Ok, so between Sunday and today, I hatched 6 from my own flock. 5/6 look like pure Bresse or Bresse mixes (straight comb) and the last one is a wyandotte mix penguin baby (Rose comb).

I already integrated the older chicks from this weekend with the Mar 7/8 babies. So far, so good.

Today is lockdown and I am dying to candle and get it going.... Not that it makes them hatch faster but I feel like I am closer. Lol. But it is still too light to candle and will be for another 4 hrs. I may see if I can since I am basically just marking air cells and looking for quitters

Okay, silly question (sort of) and probably shouldn't even be here (but it concerns my recent hatch), but if the hen is sex-link (black or red) but the roo isn't, will that still mean the chicks can be sex-linked?
Sex links only work for one generation. So even crossing a sex link hen and sex link roo won’t make sec linked chicks. I’m by no means very knowledgeable about genetics. I just know enough to understand that it’s very complicated 😂.

This thread is old but goes into considerable detail.

I put a big box over my head and candle in the day lol….you may remember the picture from last hatch thread lol

4/7 chicks made it for me. So sad to loose 3 but greatful for the 4 others. 1st ever hatch......a little more stressful than I thought when it came to the hatching stage. 😅🙈
They are lovely! I'm sorry about the other three but congratulations on the four that made it. I'm glad they dried out for you!

Yes, it's so stressful! This is only my third time and I'm not really stressed now but I know I will be on day 21. It's so worth it, though. Enjoy your little cuties!
