March 2023 hatch-a-long

Would you move an egg that pipped against the wall of your incubator? This egg in the corner pipped right where it connects with the edge of the incubator. The one next to it, which isn’t “trappedl may or may not have pipped on the bottom side. Can’t tell.

Well I've got one pipped toward the bottom, my 5yo actually noticed it first! It is taking its sweet time, which I understand is typically the case. I am afraid it's going to get cemented in there because the hole is quite large with a lot of membrane exposed, much larger than a normal external pip through the air cell where the shell mostly remains intact until they start zipping. I've never had this happen so we will see how it plays out. We removed all but one that wasn't dried off yet since they were starting to peck at each other more.

I would leave it! They will figure it out. Think of how it would be in a nest box with a broody. :)

1.5 days until hatch.
I’m being impatient waiting to see a pip or a wiggle. Last batch I had two externally pipped by this time and so much movement! I did think when candling that these ones were going to be later hatching though.
I have been looking, too, but nada. I just have to walk away, but it is hard. Thankfully I have other chicks that I can play with in the meantime 🥰

Ah dang…only 4/5 total this time. I candled for movement and internal pip on the egg that didn’t show any progress, nada. Turns out the poor thing was badly malpositioned and DIS. Hate to see it, as it was moving earlier this morning 🥺 I know it’s technically only day 21, but I can feel when something isn’t right, especially when 4 other chicks hatched practically at the same time.
