March 21 CHICKEN SWAP TSC MILFORD NH ( recycled post with new date)

Hi all

Just found this board the other day and I'm just getting started. I'm super excited that there's a swap going on soon! I'm going to bust tail and try to get everything ready so that I can come home with a few chicks.

Now, can I ask some stupid questions?

As long as the chicks are about the same age, can I buy one of 3 different breeds and throw them together?

About how much does a pullet chick cost? I'm thinking I'll stick with basics, perhaps a barred rock or australorp, an orpington and a sex-linked? Any other breeds I should definately consider?

Can I just bring a sterilite container (with air holes of course) and a handwarmer pack (well wrapped/concealed) to bring them home in?

Thank you so much!

Hey I'm new here. I can't read all 37 some odd pages of this post. Can someone tell me a little about this chicken swap? I've never been. I don't have chickens. Might if I go to the swap, my parents have had them while I was growing up. The TSC is about an hour from me. I was wondering if it is well worth the ride to go to this? I have always wanted to go to TSC as well

I've secretly wanted geese and turkey's. I think my husband will kill me though.

You can have mix the breeds...really the only problem with chickens is having MORE than enough roosters. Read read read...this forum and you will learn so much so quickly. This is the greatest site/forum and the nicest folks here.
A chicken swap is where all folks crazy about chickens come together and swap/sell their culls or chickens that they want to breed. Some are searching to improve their flocks and for showing and some are just having fun and enjoying and education folks about the joys of chickens.

The chicken stocks are great.
Chicks usually sell for about $5 per chick. You can sometimes find people giving away older /started birds. But they are usually roosters.

cashela- do you happen to own/ride a horse or horses?

Used to be. Went by Scarlett.
Cashela is a unique name so I guessed it was you.
Welcome to my new home. It is great here.
Chicken Stocks are a blast. With luck it will warm up some before the next one though.

Yeah it's the same name that I use for any chat site that I am on. Goes back to when I first got AOL many moons ago. I tried to use my horse's name Cashel but it was already used so for some reason I added an "A" and it has stuck ever since.

I will have to check this place out further when I have time.
