March Egg Swap Addresses sent

Im sorry that the eggs were broken to those that I sent eggs. I was told by my Post Master that if I didn't write on the box hatching eggs I could get in trouble. So I'm dammed if I do and Dammed if I don't... I've never had this problem before where they got dropped kicked. I don't know what to do. My post office can't ship them out like the use to or the eggs get lost and then found 10 days later.. So now they ship the packages along with other packages...

Seems to me it doesn't matter if I mark just Fragile either or Do NOT X-RAY the eggs get lost or broken.. Sorry that the eggs got broken...

I guess I wont be sending out anymore Hatching eggs until the Post Office knows what they are doing............. I didn't mean for them to get broken...

I am not sure where you live, but I am in Kalispell and I had a little trouble as well with my post office too. But I looked up the shipping regulations and you do not have to label them hatching eggs.
Here is the link to the usps shipping code. http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/601.htm I would send the package under part 9.1 perishable goods. simple label it perishable. Just a thought.

WOW sorry there has been a problem. I hope everything works out and it's too bad the PO broke them, but they're so good at that.

That being said, did anyone else get eggs from me today??? CayuseRanch got her's but I have no idea if Paquitagrl got her's. I sure hope so.

I deal with 2 post offices. The one that brings my mail knows if it says fragile it's eggs and if I have any eggs that look like they've been broken recently they will hear about it plus they like to be part of the hatching process. My mail lady is the same way but she gets to see the chickens everytime she gets to stop by. If a box is missing they're on it and she even knows about it. The PO that I take my boxes to also know me and are always careful with the boxes and make sure to scan them. They even look for missing packages too. If I don't have a box marked fragile they ask if I want them to mark it for me. Most of my packages are eggs and it kinds throws them off when I have one thats not or one that doesn't have a DC tag. I went in today to get a mo to pay for some chickens and she asked me what colors i'm getting and I didn't tell her what it was for. She just knew. lol

The only people besides one police officer that know me where I live are the people that take care of my mail.

My post office is great. The two clerks there are really getting to know me.

The one is super nice. When I call and say I'm expecting a box, she'll put the lookout for me. I went to pick up two boxes today and told them I was expecting one more. Got a call at 5:37 tonight from her that it came and would I like to pick it up. I couldn't get down there fast enough. Now, my mailcarrier, that's another story. She barely wants to get out of her car to deliver a box. I wasn't able to pick one up once, and I came home to it laying in the middle of the sidewalk just next to the driveway. Not even an attempt to find it shelter from the elements at all. I have 1 out of 6 growing in the bator from that box right now.

I have to admit, I am addicted to hatching and have received tons of eggs. I have only had one box with a totally broken egg in it and that was due to poor packing. The USPS really has been good to me so far. (I'm knocking on wood). Not to say I'm sure things don't happen. People generally just aren't carefull with other people's stuff.

My current hatch is in its last day, so I will have plenty of time to clean the hatching tray and reestablish the temperature before setting eggs on Saturday. Do we have a specific time on Saturday that we should set our hatch?

Yay! Our eggs are here and the Bator is ready! Can't wait until Sat

And here are my eggs for the hatch along. 127 so far and counting.

I have more on the way and my girls are still contributing. The bottom left tray is all bbs silkie. The top is partridge, white silkie, sizzles and a couple from my little oegbs. Top right are paint silkies, in the tray on the turner are ee's from rita and the bottom third of the tray are from hot2pot and the quail eggs eager for the bator are JB's of mine. I have more on the way. I"m getting more from a man locally and if I need more to fill that turner i'll get them from Myers a local farm also.
Thank goodness I have 3 broodies and 3 bators. Maybe more will go broody if i'm lucky.

I got a box that had yolk all over inside and I just knew they where all broken. It looked like a mass egg murder in there. But after I went thru it there where only 2 broken. They wheren't packed very well is the reason but it happens just the same. I still got what I paid for so I didn't complain. The egg didn't get under the bubble wrap of the other eggs so I didn't have to take the chance of cleaning them off. All's good. I've gotten large shipments where there was actually egg dripping out of the box. Out of 4 dozen eggs there where almost a half dozen not broken but covered in yolk and shredded paper stuck to them to boot. I did try to hatch them and got 1 chick and it died.

It happens. It's the chance we take with shipped eggs.

I bought some better quail shipping trays and they arrived today. The other ones must have been for button quail because my JB's eggs didn't sit down in them like they should. So when I start selling those i'll have better trays and unless the PO plays football with the box they will stay put.
