Mine are at day 16! :clap

Yea I'm real close.... Day 12. Candle on Sunday and lockdown on Thursday.

Just re-candled my 26/27 remaining eggs today. Found 1 more infertile egg and 1 where the chick died on either day 4 or 5. The other 24 are still going strong!

Our broody hen finished hatching out her nest of eggs, but there was 1 egg in there that another hen must have snuck in at a later date. It's alive and moving, but several days away from hatching. I put it in the incubator and think it should hatch around the same time or just a little before the others. I took the egg turner out just in case though.

So now I'm up to 41 eggs with 40 on day 14. I think I'll candle again Monday night (day 16) and then start prepping for lockdown.

I'm getting ready to start the incubator up! Working on sanitizing it now.

Random brainstorm: Do you know those survival blankets that you can buy at walmart, and other stores that look like thin tin foil? What about putting that stuff on the outside of your incubator to hold in more heat? Would that make it too hot? Sorry I have a lot of random thoughts.

Hi everyone!

I'm new to chickens and I thought hatching would be a great project with my kids and decided to tackle hatching. I had 8 eggs shipped and 12 eggs from a local farm. I open the shipped eggs and there are 12 in there and open the box of local eggs and there are 20! (The farmer is a friend!) So I now have 32 eggs in my homemade incubator!

Not quite the plan but I'm just going to go with it.

I'm attempting to hatch EEs, cream legbars, jersey giants, PBR, and a few silkies. So far the bator is holding steady temps so I am hoping all goes well. They're set to hatch on March 20th! The wait is killing me.

Hey guys! I wanted see if I could get anyone to share some candling tips with me. Tonight I am going to candle my first incubator full of eggs! Do you all just take ten or so out at a time and put the lid back on, or candle each one straight from the turner. Since it's my first time I was thinking if I do it straight from the turner with each egg, I would probably have the lid off too long...... but then also if I remove ten or so out into a carton, and then back into the turner I am handling them a lot more. Or do some of you candle say...20 one night and 20 the next? Thanks for all of your responses! Everyone has been so helpful so far, and I really do appreciate it! Wish me luck!
