debiraymond: Thanks for mentioning that! It's a big world out there, but on the BYC it's easy to make new friends with others that share our love for chickens.

We all want to encourage everyone to say hello to each other & share questions & ideas. There are a ton of really nice people posting here & besides where else can you find someone to share all of your chicken tales with, that actually wants to hear about it all. It sure takes the pressure off of my sweet hubby too.

I can assure you all that every time I read a post, I can relate to & feel what's going on. We all can, cause we've been there or are experiencing the same thing now or have been wondering about it. So many times, I've read something & say to myself, "hey, that's exactly what I was thinking." We do have fun on the BYC! So, go ahead, reach out & talk to each other. Thanks to all of you who have replied to questions & comments, it's appreciated; keep it coming. All of the pics have been really great too!

There is so much happening here with pips & hatching, it's hard to keep up. How fun! I wish I had more time to hang out here, it's so entertaining, between work & busy weekends. It was sunny today with no rain here in Southern Oregon, so I spent the whole day preping the garden, planting some early seeds, filling new planter beds, & visiting with the chickens while raking out spots in the chicken yard. They were quite the comedians today, getting attention every way they could. One of my favorite hens, Pedo, kept flying up on top of the exterior part of the nest boxes, doing the "I'm gonna lay an egg up here on the flat outside wood" song to tease me. I'm exhausted but smiling from the fun & productive day!!!! So, glad I took a moment to check on this thread. It's snore time now & the last turning of the incubator eggs (gotta get me a turner someday). Will be back tomorrow!

Happy hatching everyone!

OMG My chicks are hatching...I am so excited!! I was incubating 21 eggs, and they are due to hatch out Monday morning, maybe I was off a day because yesterday evening 2 hatched out, this morning I hear chirping in my sleep so I quickly get up to find 2 more so 4 total at this point.....I was so worried I had done not done something right. I now need to know how to post pics on here to share with you all. Thanks Sav the Favs for starting this thread.

My first chick arrived this morning more have pipped, the first one to pip has still not come out yet how long is average, he pipped about 12 hrs ago he seems ok as he is popping his beak out!!

This is my first time so any advice is very welcome. Will post pic when I work out how ! Thanks

Hey have ya'll ever heard this....... The temperature setting during incubation determines the sex of the chickie? I've never hear that or read that anywhere... but yesterday a guy said that while he was looking at our newest chickies?

I am no expert at this seeing in that it has been awhile since I incubated them, but the ones I am incubating now are doing fine, I got my first 2 yesterday when I got home around 5, this morning around 2 a.m. I woke up to see 2 more and since then 1 has come out,,but 2 more has started pipping since about 4 this morning and nothing yet, but they are working it so you and I are in the same boat..but I am sure they are fine.

I have babies popping out everywhere. I think I just hatch a lavender EE pics to follow in a bit.

So do you know how that works? I would be interested in knowing. I'm having a great hatch and my temp stayed at a steading 99.5 and 31 to 35% humidity the whole time never had to open and didnt need to add water (and didnt candle till day 18) My kids started hatching on day 19 and today is day 20, have 6 out and most of the rest are pipping. This is the first good hatch I've had since Oct.

our chicks are doing really well we have five silkies right now two are bearded.we already have a bearded adult male named puffdaddy my daughter named him that because when he was a baby he would puff up and chestbump everybody:)
