SO................. I candled and have 50/50 going into lockdown for the "traveling hatch".
Of the Speckled Sussex, 5 look great [of 10, 2 clears 1 blood ring and 2 early quitters]
My friend's EE egg - early quitter
, of the 35 Blk Australorps, 21 going to lockdown. 5 of those are very iffy, with quite a lot of clear white still in the bottom. I even thought 1 had a BR, but then realized I could see the chick moving around. Rule reinforced: If in doubt and it doesn't stink, leave it in
So now the waiting begins!
I also candled the 10 Silver Lakenvelder eggs. 3 possible clears but too soon to tell so everyone went into the Suro-20. Since these eggs are white I FINALLY GOT TO SEE VEINING AND SWIMMERS!
Amazing! I was also interested to notice the wide range of development at 6 days. everything from just shows at the top to veining, eyes with veining, Swimmers with heartbeats and shadowy bodies and definate darkening in the middle of the egg. I learn new stuff every time I candle
And just to remind everyone WHY we do this:
Seems like just yesterday [October 17, '09] I was visiting my cousin while they were hatching and they gave me a half-dozen Peeps. Mostly roos as it turned out, but one pretty little black cochin bantam. Now look at me
ADDICTED!! I own 4 incubators and am building 2 more, and will be entering my 6th hatch in the APRIL HATCH-ALONG
