March Hatch-A-Long.( How is it gettting here so quick ? LOL )

hi everyone!
I'm back with yes, MORE blue laced red Wyandottes :lau I can't stop hatching!!!
Set day is today, planning to hatch around April 3 :D

side note... I have a 2 day old chick that I ordered, did not hatch her myself.. she is an olive egger. she had pasty butt when she arrived, and I cleaned it up. she is on organic ACV water among other things (vitamin water, electrolyte/probiotic water) for her PH for the pasty butt. however...

it seems like she can't poop? I have seen small amounts of liquid/water come out, but no poop. when she tries to poop she strains, and she cries out during the straining. she also has a little dried up black navel, wondering if she perhaps didn't develop properly internally. I have cleaned the vent with AB ointment and prep H. I dont know how else to help her.... makes me so sad to hear her crying.

I had a chick like that. I literally had to massage the poop out of it by rubbing it's belly & pinching the vent open. It was completely impacted. That particular chick didn't make it, but it's possible it would have if I had caught it sooner.

Well, I had to cull my sweet little chick. I went to tie it off with dental floss to cut the stuff off, and realized its intestines were now out. I couldn't get it back in, so I just went ahead and put it out of its misery.

wow ok I will be keeping a close eye on her.. thanks yall.. in the last couple hours I have now seen her strain and poop liquid yellow (infection?) projectile like 8 inches away. like a lot of pressure built up and it shot very far. I have cleaned it with iodine.. has to be infection, internally if so.. I gave her nutridrench vitamins.. probiotics.. collodial silver.. garlic is a natural disinfectant but I dont want to feed her chunks of it, I might try making a garlic brew tea and give her a few drops.

she has had the clear/yellow and also dried white poop.. not eating anything just drinking I guess.

Such sad news...:( Sorry to hear of the troubles. It happens from time to time. I lost a chick last year that couldn't get out of the shell. I managed to save one 2 weeks ago from my first hatch this year. He zipped & couldn't pop the top after 24 hours of trying. I took him to the bathroom with hot shower running. Got him out carefully & put him in a bowl with a warm cloth under heat lamp in brooder. This worked very well & he's my second biggest chick now. :)

Sounds like a beautiful variety of bantams davewg! Been considering those myself. Maybe next year. ;) Good luck! :)

Candled weds. 7 clears and 2 blood rings removed out of 70 set. There are a few question marks in there because some of the darker shells are just too darn hard to see through. DH is going to let me use his super high power 160lumen LED flashlight for the next candle so I can see in there.
