March Hatch-A-Long.( How is it gettting here so quick ? LOL )

Day 8 for the quail, so candle and pulled all the clears and quitters. 18 clear and 4 quitters of the 73 I put in. The others looked good, veins and movement. A few stayed in just because I can't see in with how the spots are at the air cell...but holding strong still with 51 eggs. Had hoped 45 would hatch in my first try, looks like that should be doable right now!

Hatched my first Ancona baby today. My flock is black & blue, but apparently they are split to chocolate because this little baby sure isn't black or blue. WoooHooo!

I read on the E. Hatch A Long..that is could stay chocolate or be a tri..is that what she said..three colors? My brain, it's great at remembering things anymore..but one thing for sure..that is a great color right now. Cute little baby.

Good job!
I filled my LG & Hovabator to capacity & stacked a few extra on top as well. Started with 94 now down to 54 on days 10 & 15. Most were infertiles with some early quitters. My plan was to hatch between 40-50 chicks, so I think I've done good too. :) Think I'll take this as a lesson to not try to hatch so early in the season. :p It's been such a hard winter that I just couldn't wait anymore for fluffy butts!

Yep, it could stay just chocolate or end up tri color. Either way this baby is a keeper because all I have so far are black & blue.

Well, no late hatchers 36 hours after hatch time, so I just emptied my hatcher. Cracked open the 6 eggs left, for my own educational purposes. I did NOT enjoy looking at 6 little dead chicks!! idk if I will do that again. 2 were fully formed with yolk sacs absorbed and everything, just never pipped. :( One was HUGE!!!!!! 3 were mostly formed, just their belly never closed. ewww! Any ideas or advice from this information to help with my next hatch?

More ventilation during hatch. Sounds like they suffocated. Humidity may have been a bit high, but definitely open all vent holes for air flow.

Thanks! Its my LG and I've only used the thermometer that came with it. Since I'm officially addicted, guess its time to by a real thermo/ hygro. Lol

Suggestions anyone on cheapest, but really good one? Would prefer the kind that has the little probe that goes inside, but display is outside. I'm using this LG as a hatcher, & I'm a week behind this time, so I have til the 25th before my next lockdown.

Good morning, I did my first candling last night of the eggs I could see into, I tried again on the olive and blue eggs (11) but could see nothing. I culled three clears and the other 15 were well on there way. I am hopeful that the Olives and Blue have just as good fertility. I am very happy with the results up to now. I just pray they all continue to develop, no early quitter's. I have all barnyard mixes in the bator, my roosters are from my hatching last April, the dominant one is a "Wybar"? Wyandotte over Barred rock. He was only a few months old here. The other is a Wyandotte over Amber Star. I will have to go take a more recent photo.

I just hatched out my first batch of assorted bantams!! Someone please help me identify the breeds! :D they are all feather footed except for 3, the two darker ones and the white one with black speckles on the back. Please help!!
400
I also ordered 12 plus show quality booted bantam eggs! I'm sooo excited :)
