March Hatch-A-Long.( How is it gettting here so quick ? LOL )

Welsummer hatched Thursday. Waiting on bantam Cochins to hatch on Wednesday. Can't wait!

More ventilation during hatch. Sounds like they suffocated. Humidity may have been a bit high, but definitely open all vent holes for air flow.
Yes, I never even use the plugs..ever in my bator. I just get things where I want them, and get it steady without the plugs in.
They need oxygen!

you say they never pipped?? then they didn't suffocate...

the first 3 days and the last 3 days are the hardest to survive for the little chicks...were they shipped? a lot of times if they're shipped eggs the chicks don't position themselves correctly and various things...not many of which an intervention would have helped
there is usually loss...even under mama hen
I just hatched Marans last night...10 went in 8 hatched...I left the other 2 for a bit but I don't expect them to hatch

I just hatched out my first batch of assorted bantams!! Someone please help me identify the breeds!

Kind of hard to tell in the beginning, where they are assorted. Did the seller say what the roos and hens were? If booted..could be a silkie or cochin from what I can see so far. The chipmunks could be..hmmm...not sure...??

Good morning, I did my first candling last night of the eggs I could see into, I tried again on the olive and blue eggs (11) but could see nothing. I culled three clears and the other 15 were well on there way. I am hopeful that the Olives and Blue have just as good fertility. I am very happy with the results up to now. I just pray they all continue to develop, no early quitter's. I have all barnyard mixes in the bator, my roosters are from my hatching last April, the dominant one is a "Wybar"? Wyandotte over Barred rock. He was only a few months old here. The other is a Wyandotte over Amber Star. I will have to go take a more recent photo.
That's a handsome roo you have there. :) Candling of those colored eggs can be very difficult. Don't know if you've tried this (I've never set colored eggs myself), but I'm using an LED flashlight that's been modified a bit. Take an empty toilet paper roll & cut it down one side. Then get some foil wrap & cover it all. Put over end of flashlight & use black electricians tape to seal all the ends. Not sure if this works on colored eggs, but sure works on my beige ones really well! :D

Where did you get them from? Can you get individual up close pics? This would help us identify them.
