Candling of those colored eggs can be very difficult. Don't know if you've tried this (I've never set colored eggs myself), but I'm using an LED flashlight that's been modified a bit. Take an empty toilet paper roll & cut it down one side. Then get some foil wrap & cover it all. Put over end of flashlight & use black electricians tape to seal all the ends. Not sure if this works on colored eggs, but sure works on my beige ones really well!

Thanks Shellz, I am going to try this. I will let you know how this works.

Good job!
I filled my LG & Hovabator to capacity & stacked a few extra on top as well. Started with 94 now down to 54 on days 10 & 15. Most were infertiles with some early quitters. My plan was to hatch between 40-50 chicks, so I think I've done good too.

Think I'll take this as a lesson to not try to hatch so early in the season.

It's been such a hard winter that I just couldn't wait anymore for fluffy butts!

I understand that! Will probably do a few more batches of quail here to get some diversity and pic my favorites, but most are destined for the freezer. Only keeping a dozen or so for breeding (3 boys with 4 girls each is the plan). Getting some olive egger eggs for the Easter hatch a long, but at this point all chicks that I hatch this year will be sold, so not hatching a lot (I think, lol). Glad you are getting your numbers well too! Did you get yours locally or from your own or are they shipped? I have thought of ordering some quail eggs to hatch but since they are so sensitive I'm not sure I want to risk shipping them. Wondered how you acquired yours. Hope all your 54 left hatch!!!!
