What do you do to keep different breeds of chicks separated while hatching?
I have 4 bators so if I really want something separated I put them in a different bator to hatch. I have also used cut down boxes with no bottom, small baskets turned upside down over the eggs (they can & will hop out if left right side up), fruit & veggie containers that are vented. I've seen others use pantyhose, mesh laundry bags, potato & onion bags (mesh), plastic craft canvas sewn or ziptied into boxes.
6:30AM and I just heard peeping coming from the hatcher. Not sure if it's chicken, duck or turkey since all 3 are due between yesterday & tomorrow.

Yay! I might miss out on the hatching part. Hubby & daughter will be home for the excitement. Good luck <3

I like that idea for potato/onion bags or mesh laundry bags. I saw that it was recommended to use those plastic baskets that you can get at a dollar store, but I like the mesh idea- something soft & flexible.
Gen9 if I'm fortunate enough to have any of the goslings hatch I will keep some, I'll decide how many live here after they HATCH!![]()
I ordered some more frizzled polish...looks like only 1 of my 8 is going to actually hatch today or tomorrow...Polish seem to be finicky![]()
Getting hard to stay on top of y'all!Davewg, I've never hatched shipped eggs, but I wish you the best of luck with those bantams. They will be seriously cute!
Ha, ha Gen! I've got expensive tastes too. Love those ocellated turkeys.![]()
Good luck everybody with your hatches!
My first batch is in lockdown. My genesis has a defective hygrometer, so I have to add 10% to whatever reading it gives me.
It's showing 50%, but there's some condensation forming, so I know its actually more like 60%. I've also tested it against another hygrometer.
Knowing this, this hatch should be an improvement from last year's first hatch with it. I've called GQF about this unit, but they won't honor the warranty outside of U.S. :/
