I just caught sight of one of my eggs wobbling. Only day 18, so right on schedule!

I have two fans in my incubator (homemade mini-refrigerator), and both of them quit working at about 1 A.M. I had the temperature rise to 104 degree F. I had an extra fan in the shop that I quickly installed, I am just praying everything is still OK. I just returned from buying two more fans to have in reserve.

I am also using an auto turner, how often do those motors give out? Has anyone had any experience with that? Should I have an extra motor on the shelf for that too?

Set 29, 7 shipped were scrambled. Only 10 went to lockdown. I think my problem was I didn't clean the styrofoam bator well enough. Was afraid to use chemicals or anything, so basically just wiped it down. I'm guessing bacteria build up. Now that bator is only a hatcher and I've researched and figured out how to clean it. Between that and my new Genesis Hovabator, my fingers are crossed thins will get better!!

Fixing to candle my 1st ever turkey eggs on day 10!!! I'm so excited!!!!

Here's what I do .. same here, I have used styrofoam bators for years.

I use a half and half bleach/water solution. Spray the whole bottom and wire part while sitting in the tub. I only let it sit for about 3 mins. Then I rinse it with all hot hot water..for about a half a min. Then I rinse it with cold cold water for about a half a min. After getting the water out of it, I go put the top on, and turn the heat up! I get it up to around 108 or 109. I let it steam up in there, the top is getting cleaned now. I let it heat up for a couple of hrs. Then, unplug, let it sit and air out. Works great.

Yep..gets that top pretty good. Also, by putting the thermostat in there, it gets cleaned as well.

Just tossed 5 eggs out of the LG. Temp got over 103 degrees in the night. Only one was a recent quitter. Down to 18 eggs in there now & will candle again later because flashlight quit on me. There maybe more that didn't make it until now.

Genesis still doing well with 30 eggs on day 19 today. Saw 2 rolling last night.

If I don't get enough meat birds to hatch this time around, I'll have to set more eggs.

I'm a little sad one of my little Blue marans chicks is dying as I hold it...it kept needing it's bottom washed since it hatched Sat. so I'm not all together surprised
