March hatch along

400
didn't have anymore hatch but all 29 are going strong

I have two whole sponges in there that are drenched with water. Do paper towels work any better?
yes I had all wells full and two soaked sponges and couldn't get up past 50 so I added wet warm paper towels and got humidity up to 65 just keep adding water through vent hole with straw when dries out. Works great just watch if you have a bunch hatch it jumps up but can then drop after they dry so add water. I lost one who zipped after others and humidity dropped to 40 and it got stuck inside. Good luck =)

Quick question on the amaricauna leg color I was wondering if it's a breed standard to have the grey legs because if it is I will have to change my rooster cause his are yellow
Yes the standard is slate for all varieties or slate /black for blacks. If you are hatching yellow legs you have bigger problems than the rooster... Ameraucanas should have white skin and yellow legs = yellow skin. That said, i have seen chicks hatch with yellow legs due to diet and they turn white in a few weeks. These were project birds that were lacking the slate color but at least the skin was white. Please note that white skin is dominant so if you are seeing yellow/ green legs or feet then both parents are carriers .

Are you sure they are ameraucanas?? It sounds like you might have Easter eggers. A lot of eggs/ chicks for sale out there are called ameraucanas when in fact they are easter eggers...

Okay thanks! I'll try that.

get your humidity down. Anything over 80% is asking for infection. Crack the lid to let a little out.
Well, you don't HAVE to, but that's what I've been told previously.
Thank you! I'll take any advice I can get since this is my first real attempt at hatching. My hatcher is cracked, I took out the paper towels and removed water from two of the wells since the 1/2 carton (with the bottom cut out) the eggs are sitting in is wet.
It took every ounce of effort to not candle the eggs since I had to open the bator anyway

Thanks again!
