Update!!  The second chick to pip, only one to zip, is now out of the shell.  A little miracle.  It's still moving around and trying to stand it looks like and is loud.  Hopefully it will encourage the other chick that has pipped.  

I heard the chick in the kitchen so I went in there and saw it was VERY close so I was able to call my son in so he could watch it hatch.

So cool! Congrats!

BTW: That is red food coloring in there with her. I have really bad vision and that is how I kept track of the water levels in there.

It was the only thing I had in a pinch.

It was easier to see in the dark too. BTW: First chick to pip is now in the process of slowly zipping. Should have another little one in there in a few hours flopping around.

Still have 14 in the incubator. My rhodebars are due to hatch on 3/20.

And now there are two!! No other pips but that's okay. I have some chicks coming at the end of the month.

These two will go out with the bantam chicks I got for my nephew when they are ready to be moved out to the brooder. At least they will have company. I just got the bantams on Saturday. The day they should have hatched.

So I guess the lesson here is to not give up on eggs just because they SHOULD be dead. Out of 23 eggs, I have two babies on day 25.

Will you check the remaining eggs for signs of life and try to help them out of the shell?

I want to try to warm these two up first. I'm afraid that if I open up too much they won't have the heat they need to dry out. Don't want to get a chill but yes, I'll go in and check the rest.
