March hatch along

Wow! 73 quail! Oh my gosh! I'd like to see pictures of you candling those tiny little eggs!

I had a stinker today, took it out. It never did show any signs of development and today it was VERY dark. I believe this is from infection causing the egg membrane to become thicker? Anyone ever really learned what happens when an egg goes bad?
Yeah, not much fun doing these teeny little things, but I wanted to see! I think the darkening has something to do with the bacteria altering/clouding the contents of the egg (turning it a darker color). Good thing you pulled it, they can sometimes explode!

I was due to lockdown tomorrow, but I think I will wait until Thursday evening. Last night I dropped one of my durn marans eggs while candling a few. Made me sick! So now I'm officially at 30 that all look good to go for lockdown. I'm venting all humidity and getting the air cells where I want them, and I need to make some kind of diverter to put in front of the fan. So besides me and@carcar80 @carcar80 (not sure why you got tagged twice, but I can't fix it ) Who else is due for lockdown this week?

Sounds like you guys get to entertain us with stories of hatching this week while we anxiously await our own. I'm only on day 5, with marans and frizzled ee but my Brahmas, blrw, and americauna/ lo cross, silkies, lo and frizzled serama got to go outside today. I put them on grass by big chickens in dog cage and they kept popping out through the bars so funny, my old lab kept finding them and pointing while we put them back in and tried to cover bottom before they could pop out again, lol. If someone saw they had some good entertainment, those little ones are fast. Anyway hope you all have full brooders soon:D

We're due for lockdown tomorrow! Looks like 21 Ameraucana, 1 OE, and maybe 5 BCM (hard to tell). Trying to keep track of eggs from individual parings this time, which adds a bit of a new twist for me. Took out the turner last night and started to increase the humidity a bit. Was trying dry incubation, but air cells were looking pretty big - and I *thought* I heard peeps?

So sorry for your loss. I get nervous during candling and am always afraid I'm going to gunch them somehow.

Well I've hatched probably a couple hundred, hand turned them all, and that was my first dropped egg. So not that bad, but I hated it because it was so far along.
