March hatch along

Congrats to all of the hatches so far and good luck to everybody

I set 16 Welsummer and 14 EEs crossed to Welsummer roo in the Bator on March 1st at11pm. I left them alone and didn't candle any eggs until day 19 when I took them out of the turner and put them in lock down. Could not get any light thru on any of the eggs so should be in good shape, fingers crossed :)

Today is day 21 and at 9pm this evening the 1st egg has a pip and Im hearing cerps from the bator :) Boy when it says 21 days the little buggers are right on time lol Should be an interesting night lol the bator is in the bedroom by my bed lol

I was anyone knew if you can sex americaunas by the color of there legs my three hens have the grey blue and my rooster has yellow is that a sure sign or just coincidental

Ameracana breed chickens should have slate (dark blue/black/grey) colored legs. Any other color it is not an ameracana, but most likely an EE. And no they can't be sexed (either EE or ameracana or aracana) by the color of the legs, that is just coincidence in your few chicks.

There is something floating around in the back of my head about leg color genetics and how it is passed down, there may be some gender basis for how color is inherited, but I can't quite remember what it is, and the parents would need the right combo if it can even be done.

Yay for babies!!

I tried so hard not to candle...only looked at one. It's so rewarding to see little swimmers in there. This time next week, I hope to have babies too!

My mom and I just locked down our next hatch.... only had 4 out of the last hatch, and one died. So I hope this one is better. Mom got me hooked on this site, and I am learning a lot.
