March hatch along

Three are a zip assist.. Did a kind of can-opener shell removal leaving membrane intact. They are moist and active and vocal. Not too worried.

The last never had internally pipped, was still moving but sluggish. So I made a hole in the end big enough to break the membrane over its beak. Not much hope for that one but letting it hang out.

I think the rest of mine quite. I did candle and couldn't see much. One had internally pipped early yesterday. I decided to open it up since there was still no movement and no peeps. Looks like he just quit. I'm pretty happy with the three chicks I have. And these eggs were not only shipped but they were not held at the post office. They were sent out to the house and returned to the office when no one was here. They really went through a tough trip. 3 out of 16 isn't great but I'm sure one of these little guys is a boy and I'll have a chance with my own eggs.

My chicks still have some yucky stuff on them. Do you guys bathe them or let them do their own thing? They are adorable though...

I let nature take its course unless they have membrane or eggshells stuck to them. They seem yo clean up nicely once they are in the brooder.

4th one just hatched....1 zipping and one pipped. Cant really tell if any of the others have pipped since i can only see one side of the eggs in the carton. 1 egg hs moved position but nit sure if it moved on its own.

HELP!!! I just caught myself searching the BST forum for hatching eggs. I was half way through PMing a seller when I realized I need an intervention. (I realize this may not be the right place to look).

If it was an assisted hatch (the only ones I ever have trouble w/ fluff not fluffing) I wait in the incubator until they are dry and then GENTLY fluff w/ a SOFT toothbrush. If the fluff isn't fluffed they can't hold heat, I never put an unfluffed chick in the brooder.
