Countdown To Hatch

I built another bator and it is full. Day 16 today for first bator. Most eggs looked good at day 7, will candle at 18 and see Temp has been from 98.9 to 99.9 and humidity from 37 to 42 . New bator is a bit smaller. little different location for thermostat and light. Very steady with temp from 99.4 to 99.6 for 8 days. Put eggs in wed and today. from wed to today with eggs in once it got to temp has been 99.5 period. I reset high low wed nite and has not moved since. I am really happy with this one. The humidity will vary a bit more ith this one. It seems to want to go up and down a bit more. I will see in a day or so. It now had 33 eggs in it so that should help stabilize it a bit. So I will hatch on 4th of march, the 17th, and the 19th. I may reload the first bator on the 9th 0r 10th for a 30th31st hatch as well. This is MARCH MADNESS right.

My husband and I have been building our bator which should be complete this weekend. We are doing a week of test runs and we get out eggs on March 5/6: 12 Australorps and 12 Silver-Laced Wyandotte. We are so excited!!!! We should hatch by the end of the month

AHHHHHHHHhhhhhh. I heard this is just as addicting as tattoos....

Hey, all. I have 22 eggs I'm hoping will hatch out 3/6'ish. This is my first hatch ever and it is in a Little Giant still air incubator with turner. The incubator has given me fits at times trying to regulate the temp., but the eggs seem to be ok. I had 24 originally, but 2 candled clear. I broke them yesterday to see if they were infertile eggs or quitters. They were definitely infertile. So, out of 22 fertile eggs, I have 22 chicks developing. Please wish me well that they will all hatch. I'm nervous and excited. I am hoping for mostly RIR chicks (all my roos with the hens are RIRs), but I have a variety of hens, so trying to get all RIR hen eggs was challenging. This was a test run, anyway--it looks to be going great.

I do have two questions for you hatching folks--I have 2 hens that once a week or so lay double-yolked eggs. They are longer than normal. If I were to put them in the incubator, would both chicks be able to survive in one egg shell? Also, I have an Easter egger pullet (she is one of the ones that lays double-yolked eggs). I was told she'd lay blue or green or possibly pink eggs. However, she lays light brown eggs. I have an Americauna cockerel. If I were to later breed the two of them, would their female offspring possibly lay blue or green eggs. Just wondering. I might in a few months try it, raise a few of their chicks to see what I get.

Good luck to you all on the spring hatchings. It is such a great time of year.

I'm setting 17 eggs tonight

So hatching March 20! 11 Wyandotte and 6 Wyandotte cross (5 are EE eggs) from my own flock. Mixed bag of varieties so every chick will be a surprise. May actually be a couple other cross ones that I listed here as pure Wyandotte because my one BR hen lays the same color egg. Her chicks come out all black though when crossed to my Wyandotte roos so I should be able to pick them out at hatch. I'm so excited, I love hatching even when I don't plan to keep the chicks, which this batch will be for sale as literally day olds at a local chickenstock.
