I have suspected that my flock had Marek’s Disease for a few months, and I suspect who introduced it. One of my girls shows signs of ocular Marek’s, but we noticed a year after we got her, so our whole flock has been exposed.
Fast forward to today: we have an Easter egged with ascites (water belly) so we culled her.
I thought maybe she was in heart failure, as we have extreme temps in AZ and she has been showing signs of respiratory distress.
After preparing her for cooking for the dogs, I found her insides riddled with tumors.
She has not laid an egg in months, and now I wonder, are these tumors from Marek’s or from reproductive cancer?
Next, is it safe to eat her?
Thank you so much. It has been a tough day as she was one of our “pets,” but I also do not want to waste her life.
