Greetings. I had my first flock vaccinated for MD because I thought it was the best choice given our location at the time (next to another large flock, random chicken visitors, etc).
We later moved to a more secluded place but have kept vaccinating subsequent flocks because MD was already present from the first flock (never had any symptoms of the wild strain but who knows).
I’ve been thinking about transitioning to an unvaxxed flock over time. I’ve read everything I can find, here and elsewhere, and it looks like a huge endeavor. Get rid of existing flock, sanitize everything, possibly trash coops, and then basically wait at least a year before getting new birds.
Can’t get my head around all that effort and expense.
Curious if anyone here has thought through this, and what you came up with.
Many thanks!
