I have a day-old silkie cross (hopefully the rest will hatch today). My vet recommended Mareks vaccine. Is the dose the same for silkie’s (I think the standard is 0.2 ml)? She’s pretty tiny. I want to make sure she’s protected, but not overdo it.

Is she a silkie bantam or silkie?
I honestly don’t know. Daddy was a rescue and we were told silkie, but I do not know the diff and I’m guessing the people who surrendered him didn’t either. I will google some picks to see if I can tell. Thank you for responding

I’m still not sure. Here’s some pics of dad (Chewy) and mom is probably a buff Orpington. Chewy died suddenly from an accident and I was sad so incubated a few of his possibly fertilized eggs. 7EA3C33A-031E-4DA5-BB26-46BE6B7A7E33.jpeg 0E31E572-370C-4E0B-8691-F060EF91E2D6.jpeg 7EA3C33A-031E-4DA5-BB26-46BE6B7A7E33.jpeg 0E31E572-370C-4E0B-8691-F060EF91E2D6.jpeg 11893142-D32C-4AB7-921E-A02B7F3B3ABF.jpeg 323C02C0-89BB-4671-9DDE-6DAB91F11800.jpeg D4142C9D-B4E4-48D0-9606-8619348BA777.jpeg

Incredibly late on this forum but, I bought silkies from valley hatchery and I paid extra for markets vacations.

One of my baby roosters is showing signs of this even though he got the vaccine.. so I’m at a loss right now

Welcome, @MistressLupine.
Try starting a new thread, don't respond to this old thread. Mareks vaccinated chicks need to be totally separated from your flock and environment for about two weeks, so they have time to develop protection from the vaccine. And, it protects them from developing the tumors that kill most Mareks infected chickens, it doesn't prevent them from infection.
There are other reasons for chicks to get sick and die; how old is this cockerel? Diet, symptoms, exactly what's going on with him?

Thank u so much for the advice and my apologies I didn’t mean to, I’m extremely new to the chicken community so I’m doing my best to be well informed and as careful as possible

He’s gotten a lot better, turns out it was a ear infection

The severe head shaking and loss of balance, I was able to fix it! It was something terrifying to deal with since it was my first month having them.

I lost a grey baby due to that incurable respiratory infection, so I’ve been on edge about everything else

Edit: they are a little over a month old now, and have been moved out to the coop most of the day

I didn’t know how much extra care silkie chicks need, no regrets though they were definitely the missing piece I needed in my life right now

All of them also had really bad impacted crop, so I had to quarantine them and remove food for 24 hours. The feather loss was scary.

I made this for the vet I was talking to for advice, they are so much more fluffy now and feathers have completely come back
