It's a gamble. With vaccination, a percentage of birds will contract Marek's (I remember reading a report that said 4 birds in 100 on average), but whether that's from the failure of the bird to develop antibodies (and being exposed to Marek's present in the barn) or the vaccine itself causing the disease, who knows. I'd be suspicious if they developed the disease just a couple weeks after vaccination, as that could indicate the vaccine as a cause.

the first few times I dosed the chickens right from the vial then threw out the remainder, I always keep all my vaccines in a cooler bag w/ice when I'm giving them and I know the vaccine is only good for an hour.
The other times i divided the dried wafer into 4 parts and only hydrated the 1/4 in a glass vial with the proper liquid. Again, kept cold and used before an hour- was a fresh vaccine also. this last time I only did because the zoo asked me to dose the ones before pick up. The Silkies they got were fine but I have lost 5 of the 7 bantam Polish Frizzle youngsters and 2 other Silkies that were vaccinated at the same time.
