Marek's vs. perosis - please help

Mostly concerned about two little ones. I did not vaccinate the babies that were born here. Have 4 2 year olds that were vaccinated for it and 3 6 month olds that I got from TSC. Not sure if they vaccinate or not. Also have 3 year old rooster that was not vaccinated, 1 year old hen not vaccinated, and 6 year old hen which I am not sure of. They were all exposed to her when it started happening. She is improved from prior and she is trying very hard to get her feet under her and get up. I feel like I should give her a chance.

Older Birds can Build immunity to all Diseases...Mereks is worse on young Birds.......

I understand this is very confusing being some really do not understand the issue.....It could be as simple as diet and nutrition....I would look there first....

Cheers!

I'm all for giving them a chance, and you can try a variety of things to rule out other possibility, but my gut feeling says it's Marek's, but that might be because I just did a necropsy on one with it.

I don't think @newchickiemom48 chick had mareks...one of our duccle cockerels got something that probably was mareks. His legs did the splits, he could not walk and he refused to eat or drink. If i remember correctly he seemed to have a purplish comb unlike the other cockerels who were bright red.

No links.....Read up on Mereks.....Wild bird carry it.....Having a Wild Bird feeder in our yards brings in the disease......If they are carriers.....It can come in on our shoes...Car tires...Wildlife.....etc.......

Cheers!

Here in Alberta the Backyard Chicken project started....People in the city of Edmonton are allowed so many Birds.....The animal welfare and University in Bio chemically transferred diseases is in an up roar over the Backyard project......Chickens carry many diseases that are confined to one flock....If Joe next door has Birds too? Transmitting disease is double......Does this make sense.....?

Used to be only regulated suppliers or Farmers who raised Chickens.....Now disease is being spread all over.....

Cheers!

The one I just necropsied looked just like the the one in this thread. It did not do the splits, nor did it have a purple comb, and it was still eating... It just couldn't walk.
