Mare's Illegal Cute-ness (Call Duck) Chat Thread!!

Pics
I'd think of putting them with the muscovies and making a larger pen, but I wouldn't trust the muscovie male to to turn into the Hulk on them all
My little Drakes all do good with my two female Muscovy but I too would not have trusted them with my huge drake that I had to rehome. He was brutal on both hens and drakes in the pen. I have learned larger Hens and smaller drakes seem to be best or the hens. That is what attracted me to the Call drakes.

Thanks so much for the info. I hope by my Hens all being larger things will go well in the spring but time will tell. I am sorry your one got beat up. It is a shame that you have to get them in pairs. I don't know how to get all of one sex other than drakes as most people want rid of them if they end up with too many. I just love my little boys. They make their little raspy quacks all day long but it doesn't bother anyone as they are so quiet. It's my big Hens with the big mouths. lol I hope that yours heals up nicely and that once it get colder out they leave each other alone. Where are you located? Our weather here in Ohio has been absolutely crazy!!!
I’m in Illinois, so just about the same as you. Posting a screen shot of what our weather is looking like. It is SSOO not normal for us. It’s more spring here, which is why I think they are confused. And it’s going to be hanging in the 40s for at least the next week or so. They were just fine together until this warm up happened. Cackle is going to be selling them as duckings but they will be straight run, better than nothing though. I just have to wait as they aren’t selling them yet. But I will also be able to get straight run from the lady I got these guys from too. Which I will be more likely to get them from her. She is only like 15 min from me and I can see that she loves her animals and takes care of them really well. Unfortunately the horses that need extra care are ones she sold but bought back due to the owners no longer able to care for them and she got them back sick.

Edited to changed chicks to ducklings 🤦‍♀️. So used to chicks 😂

Yes your weather is a lot like ours for sure. Maybe you can at least sell your Call Drakes on Craiglist if you end up with too many of them. The guy I got mine from only had them listed for a day and they were gone. I got them, lol. I kept his number and that is how I ended up being able to trade my other two big drakes for two more little Calls. They seem really sweet right now even though it is so warm out but they are probably only about 6 or 7 months old too. They don't seem interested in anything but each other and walk around like they own the place in a pack of 4, lol. They are so funny to watch. I hope you can end up with females. I love the eggs and I figure they are probably pretty small and also they might be louder than my tornado sounding Khaki, Mallard and Rouen Hens. It started out with just the new Khaki I got at the end of summer and now it is a contest to see who can be the loudest! lol They were never this bad until I added the new Khaki. Now I know why he was willing to give her up, lol. She had the blue ribbon at the fair for the loudest duck in Ohio. lol

You are most welcome. Do you think your female Call will be safe with your larger drake when Spring comes? I have one that looks just like that, he is half Rouen and half Mallard but mine are all drakes.
My Drake isn't actually that much larger. They are all about thr same size. The smallest being Raspberry and Puddle. Largest being Lidus. All hens. Drake (Puddin') is in the middle, weight-wise I believe. He's 1.5lbs.
