Marking chicks?

How do you guys mark your chicks (assuming that you do)?

Mine should be hatching this weekend, and I have some of my own mixed in with the ones I bought. I know with chicken chicks, some people dab nail polish on their claws, but quail are so much teenier, I didn't know if it would be noticable.

I dont use anything that early but you could try thin cable ties. You know, they are plastic and you stick the end through the other end where a lock or something is and it clicks locked and the only way to remove them is to cut them?

When I do mark, I use zipties (but you have to make them fairly "tight' on those tiny feet and then you gotta watch htem like crazy so they don't get hurt when they start growing. And then ofcourse carefully remove them.

On lighter chicks i dab a blue dot of nontoxic marker on the back of their head.

Marker would work. Mine are A&M's.

Ya I use permanent marker on head or tails.
I have also heard of food color dipping thier tails.

Just remember if you do it this way you have to redo it every week or so.

Marker and dye work great just don't use red
