Marking chicks

I mark the back of their heads with a sharpie. Just black, but I will draw symbols if I have quite a few.

I use different colored sharpie on the backs of their heads, too. I reapply as needed.

I painted the toenails of my barred rocks and RIR , I used different colors for each hen, like purple and blue. On these new chicks - they each have a dot done with a magic marker on top of their heads. It does make it nice I can see who is who. I won't give any names till I know who's a roo or a hen.

I also numbered the eggs and we have bets going on who would be hatched first and whether it would be a rooster or a hen.

Since 3 eggs hatched at the same time, I don't know who was first. #5 hatched last and it was so cute watching her/him trying to keep up with her flockmates who had hatched 12 hours or so before.
